My hockey background
I am raised in a traditional hockey family, as everyone plays hockey. I started playing field hockey at the age of five at H.V. Hockeer. At the age of nine we moved to Zwolle and I started playing field hockey at HC Zwolle. That year I was selected to join the Hockey Academy training sessions, a district training group for hockey talents. Training focussed on technical and passing skills.
From U12 I have always played at the highest level of hockey. In MO16-1 we qualified for the national championship indoor and outdoor. At the indoor championship we even reached the semi-finals. It was a fantastic experience where I learned to play and perform under great pressure.
As a central defender my play is characterized by strong passing and defensive skills. Both make me an asset to the team. I always have a good overview of the field and I coach my teammates to ensure everyone is positioned well. As a defender I bring calmness and focus to my team.
I am always eager to learn and open for feedback to improve my play and choices. Currently I am working on my drag flick for my penalty corner next to my sweep corner.
Why I want to play college field hockey
Field hockey has always been a big part of my life. I love the combination of school and sports. Studying in America gives me the chance to combine playing field hockey and studying both at a high level. This seems like an amazing opportunity to me. I am determined to work very hard to achieve my hockey and academic goals.
I value being a part of a team where everybody supports and helps each other to become a better player. Where everyone fights for each other to win the game.
I look forward to making lifelong friends, discovering new cultures and making new memories. I want to grow as a person, both personally and athletically. Living in a new environment will be an enriching experience.
I am very excited about this adventure!
