My hockey background

I have officially started to play hockey when I was only  6 years old. At an age of 2 years you could find me already on the hockey field, because my mom was playing at that time for the 1ste womens team of HGC. She also played for the National Dutch Team from 1999 – 2002.  So hockey is very important in our family. My father is the manager for Cartouche 1st Mens team at the moment.

As a young child you could always find me on the hockey field at HGC with a stick and bal. I always played in the first (selection) teams, both outdoors and indoors. Also I gave training to young girls at my hockey club.

At the beginning  of my hockey career I played at all the positions in the field, but as of MO12 I have played as midfielder and defender. From the age of 13 till 16 I have played at the back on all positions. And from this year my position now  is a central defender, which I really enjoy.

As a defender, I bring a sense of calmness to the team, by coaching. I ensure that everyone is well positioned.

My strengths are giving good passes, see the ball lines, ensure everyone is in the right place and the field is well organised. Also one of my strengths is my timing to take the ball from the opponent. I am also a dedicated teamplayer, am in a very good physical condition, give 100% commitment and a social person within the team. At the moment I play all games for all minutes and get barely exchanged.

I am a relentless competitor, a dedicated team player and play in a very competitive competition (against all top youth teams in the Netherlands such as HDM, Rotterdam and many others). I bring not only my skills but also my commitment to improve and contribute to the succes of the team.

Why I want to play college field hockey in the USA

I really like to play as a professional field hockey player and it would be a dream to get the opportunity to go to America and combine hockey with study. I like to play in a team and get the best out of myself and my teammates and try to improve myself too.

Combining hockey and studying in a country like America, where the sports culture is so vibrant, sounds absolutely amazing to me. I look forward to being part of a team that is driven to get better every training and every match, where teamwork is important and where you have fun both on and off the field. The idea of playing at a high level and improving my skills even further motivates me.

The idea of experiencing a new culture, making lifelong friends, and improving my English all appeal to me tremendously. I see it as a fantastic opportunity to embark on a new adventure and further develop myself, both personally and athletically.

At school I will of course also focus on my studies.  Im looking forward to get the educational  opportunity that America has to offer. I am confident that this experience will help me grow as an individual and prepare me for success in my future career and I am excited about the opportunity to make friends for life.
