SOCCER BACKGROUND
I am an intelligent soccer player with excellent game awareness. As a defensive midfielder, I know when to slow the game down and when to push forward. In addition to my solid defensive positioning, which allows me to win the ball easily, I am also strong in duels and capable of making decisive tackles when needed. I see myself as a modern midfielder, combining defensive strength with the ability to contribute to the attack. I know when to advance and support the offensive play, and as a number 6, I often initiate attacks with my long-range passes, which are one of my key strengths. Another one of my strong points is my first touch, particularly in tight spaces, where I can quickly turn away from pressure. My ability to control and manage the pace of the game ensures a sense of calm on the field.
I began playing soccer at the age of 4 at S.V. Laren '99, located in Laren. When I was 7, I was scouted by AFC Ajax, a four-time Champions League winner. However, after a couple of months, I was not selected. From the age of 4 until U-11, I always played in the first team at Laren. With Laren, we won many championships and competed at a high amateur level. At the age of 11 I joined HC&FC Victoria in Loosdrecht. I have been playing here since U-12 and am currently in the U-19 team as a 17-year-old. At Victoria, I consistently played in the top team for my age group, and also sometimes played with teams one year older. This year, I began training with Victoria's first team and recently made my debut in a friendly match. Throughout my career, I have always competed at the divisional level, both at Laren and at Victoria. We were champions many times, and in the U-17s, we won back-to-back championships in the 6th and 5th divisions.
WHY COLLEGE SOCCER IN AMERICA
Playing soccer at a high level while attending a good college seemed like a dream. However, I soon realized that balancing both in my home country would be difficult. That’s why playing college soccer in America is such a great opportunity for me—it allows me to pursue my passion for soccer while also focusing on the importance of a strong academic education. Moreover, it is an incredible experience and an excellent chance to grow both as a player and an individual. For instance, having the ability to speak a second language with fluency, but also living alone in another country teaches you to rely on yourself and encourages independence. Overall, I believe it is an incredible experience to play my favorite sport while maintaining strong academics.
The primary goal I want to achieve with my team is, of course, to become champions. In addition, I want to be an asset to the team. However, this is not my only goal. It is also important for me to grow and develop as a soccer player. Another key goal is to have an unforgettable experience while being in the States. I want to meet new people through soccer and college and form lifelong friendships. To conclude, academics are equally important, as they will play a significant role in shaping my future.
