From the Netherlands to NCAA Field Hockey
Roos Wiarda, a talented defender from Rotterdam, Netherlands, made the leap to NCAA Division I field hockey after developing her skills at HGC U18-1 in the Netherlands. With a strong background in Dutch club hockey, Roos brought her defensive expertise and tactical awareness to Towson University.
Her placement with Towson was a perfect fit, thanks to her technical abilities, size (standing at 6’1”), and potential to make an immediate impact on the field.
Making an Impact as a Freshman
Roos quickly adapted to the fast-paced nature of American collegiate field hockey. In her freshman season (2024), she played in 16 games, earning 3 starts and helping the Tigers to a 7-11 record. Her defensive presence was key to strengthening the backline as she adjusted to the NCAA level.
Beyond the field, Roos is majoring in Nature and Health and has ambitions beyond athletics—she aspires to become a pilot in the Air Force. Her determination both on and off the field sets her apart as an athlete and leader.
The Road Ahead
Roos's first season at Towson has been a strong foundation for an exciting college career. With her work ethic and skill set, the coming years will bring even greater success on the field.
