🏑 From Rotterdam to Norfolk

Seréna Langendoen, a talented defender from Rotterdam, Netherlands, started playing field hockey at the age of six with OMHC before moving to Leonidas to compete at a higher level. She consistently played on the first teams in both outdoor and indoor hockey, refining her technical and tactical skills. Her talent earned her a place on the Dutch U15 and U16 national teams, where she showcased her abilities on the international stage.

In 2024, Seréna took her career to the next level by committing to Old Dominion University (ODU), joining the Monarchs’ field hockey program. With her strong defensive presence and goal-scoring ability, she was set to make an immediate impact.

🔥 Making an Immediate Impact

Seréna didn’t take long to establish herself as a key player for ODU. In her freshman season, she started all 18 games, proving her consistency and resilience on the field. She made a mark offensively as well, scoring seven goals and providing one assist for a total of 15 points.

Moving from the Netherlands to the U.S. was a big step, but Seréna embraced both the academic and athletic challenges at ODU. She quickly integrated into the team culture, adapting to the fast-paced, competitive style of NCAA hockey. Her experience highlights the growing impact of international players in U.S. college sports.
